Hi, I have been sent an email for this and because my Galaxy could do with some warranty repairs further this year ;) just kidding, I would like to know if anyone has this or if it is any good to have.
Before this I never even thought of getting a warranty for my car.

I presume the people selling this warranty intend to charge you more than they intend to spend on repairs. Why would you want that?

there are various stipulations when it comes to these after market warranties.
iirc most of them insist on your car being serviced by a vat reg garage.which negates it if you do your own servicing and simple repairs.
they wont cover wear n tear etc,
you need to read the small print very carefully.

They do cover wear and tear , well thats what they stipulate in their terms here,,--
From WARRANT DIRECT :

IDENTIFICATION OF FAILURE:

We have illustrated below the point at which we see faults identified. Failures identified during MOT or servicing account for 40% of the repairs we see. This is covered as standard by Warranty Direct - a benefit not included by most extended warranty providers.

20% Failures at roadside requiring recovery
40% Failures identified during MOT or servicing
40% Failures not involving a recovery

UNLIKE LESSER WARRANTIES FROM OTHER WARRANTY COMPANIES, THESE FAILURES ARE COVERED BY WARRANTY DIRECT.

WEAR AND TEAR FAILURES:

As illustrated below, the majority of the claims we pay involve Premature or Normal Wear & Tear/Gradual Deterioration. Many car parts are subject to failure due to wear and this can happen early in a car’s life, or later.

19% Premature Wear & Tear
48% Normal Wear & Tear/gradual deterioration
33% Non Wear & Tear related failures

UNLIKE LESSER WARRANTIES FROM OTHER WARRANTY COMPANIES AND MANUFACTURERS, BOTH PREMATURE AND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR RELATED FAILURES ARE COVERED BY ALL* WARRANTY DIRECT POLICIES.

* Unless the Warranty Direct policy is a renewal or if it was taken out within 30 days of the original manufacturer warranty expiring, Wear & Tear claims are subject to a 90 day exclusion period.

Using our claims data we can see what is likely to go wrong with your vehicle. Here are the parts we have seen which have failed on your vehicle:
9.09% Air Conditioning
12.12% Axle & Suspension
24.24% Braking System
27.27% Cooling & heating system
18.18% Electrical

Under 10% Engine

Under 10% Fuel System

Under 10% Transmission

Hi gregers ;) :D ,,I havent been on to the 'other'site for ages, I havent had much trouble with the ol'Galaxy so far, ( touching my head  ).
But after a hundred thousand miles the Auto gearbox wont last much longer , so I have been told and I couldn't fork out the expense for that just now.
I was thinking maybe get this and then if 'something ' should happen then I can get it fixed without worrying about the cost and I am sick of driving like a Eunuch
Once I take this on after your positive feedback then I will drive this baby like it deserves  Joking aside, what do you say to the above guys.?

They will probably cover virtually anything but read the small print carefully as they will have more escape routes than the boiler manufacturers.

Imagine clutch fails at side of the road, covered? Probably not as they will put it down to wear & tear. They will wriggle out unless clutch has suddenly fallen apart.

Many moons ago I purchased a used car with a warranty similar to these and clutch on that failed and had that exact scenario. Garage wouldn't confirm if I was covered until they had inspected it by which time you are committed to them carrying out the repair. Too late to shop around. Then you probably guessed it - not covered clutch plate worn!

They cover engine faults but read the small print and it will probably say something to the effect sudden and unexpected faults. Timing belt fails and they will probably say it should have been replaced several miles/months ago.

Remember these companies are in business to make money so if they can decline a claim they probably will. They are an insurance company and they don't make money when they pay out for claims they could possibly avoid!!

Galaxy Gearbox:

Would it be worth changing the oil and cleaning the filter before it starts giving trouble, or is it not worth the hassle?

They specifically say wear and tear inc. etc. anything that comes comes up on a service or MOT aswell. I can choose a choice of independant garage or main dealer type.
I might go for it, see what happens.

These people are insurers, and therefore will try every rule in the book to wriggle out of a claim.
Sure if the gearbox casting mysteriously cracks then fair enough, but if any vehicle has covered a high mileage then no way are they going to pay for dud sychromesh, or a clutch (and flywheel) that has suddenly departed this earth.
If you think about it, almost every item is sublect to wear and tear in one way or another. Brakes / timing belt / alternator / a/c compressor / wheel bearings failure.....nope.
Personally I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole....they are there to make money - yours - and not give it away.
John :)

Yes , I appreciate that and you guys are being very honest, but this specific firm says that they will cover the warranty even for wear and tear especially as others do not do it.
Thats what I thought may be usefull for a car as old as mine.
