It's already got one on the hose. Possibly hard to see in the photo and maybe not being used correctly.

Unfortunately the odours would just carry on into the washing machine drum
Doh - couldn't see it for looking!!
ideally they are for mounting the hose to the wall so it rises up and over the level of the drum to stop it back filling once it's pumped out and the pump stops and grips the pipe to keep it from moving but it's also handy as it can help to hold the drain hose into the stand pipe

What height should the top of the standpipe be at?
Most machine instruction give a height above floor level, some machines even include a mark, line, or label on the back.
You want it at least up above the level of the stand pipe and certainly above the fill level of the machine.
Personally I'd fit an s-trap and then you wont even need any extra pipe

I've already bought and opened the other recommended parts
That would just pi$$ pumped water out when machine drains.
