Water leak from chimney?

Our chimney stack was rebuilt about 10 years ago. Since then, we have continued to have issues with water leaking into the first floor chimney breast. The water can be seen trickling down the breast from the picture rail.

We have recently had a new roof which we thought would solve the problem.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this please?

We had a similar issue, the lead flashing appeared good, the pointing appeared sound the cap appeared good.

We had a roofing company out that applied waterproofing to the stack which solved the ingress of water.

Strictly speaking the trays are to high . Top one by one course lower one by two courses .
Can only assume the lower one is turned up inside the loft area ?
You could increase the size of the front and rear flashings so they cover the exposed bricks .
Check inside they are turned up .

Thank you both for your thoughts.
Datarebel - would you expect there to be weep holes above the lower tray? Where is any water supposed to go if it reaches the lower tray? Thanks

datarebal - you can’t see the chimney from the inside of the loft. It looks like the lower tray is in line with the picture rail on the inside…

OP,
The lower lead tray might be wrong but there's not much can be done about changing it?
You dont show the flaunching.
Pic #6 doesnt show a flue vent for the blocked off flue.

The back gutter is the most suspicious item of flashing - it not been built correctly.
The single piece step-cover flashing is also wrong for those tiles - the step flashing should be a cover flashing only, and each individual tile should have its own individual soaker.

Bend back the lead around the front & sides of the chimney stack, & then lift the nearest tiles - doing this will give you an opportunity to examine the felt for water defects, & see the batten arrangements: post pics.
Bend up the back gutter & remove the two tile courses that are directly above, post pics of what you expose: eg. water penetration, how the back gutter was constructed & how the felt has been arranged,

Provided there are sockers at the side of the chimney the step flashing will be ok . I would look to plugging it properly , maybe get some hall clips the lead mate , it's not very though as it is .
The tray will be the issue . , if it's not turned up on the inner sides and back you could get water ingress.
They say it's been cut where it comes from under the step flashing isn't ideal .. so what have they done out of sight ???
Might be an idea to take a few tiles off and take a look at the tray. If you are lucky you will be able to see what's been done with it .

If the trays are correct then the state of the chimney head is irrelevant. The trays should catch any moisture
As I previously said extending the rear apron from under the tray to weather the back gutter might help .

You have the scaffolding .... so just get the garden hose and some bricks.
Go up there and put the water on any area that looks dodgy leave for 2 hrs,
write some posts of facebook and then go check the damp patch.
If it's okay, redirect the hose.
Start at the lower end of the slope, if that's okay then move on up, step by step.
