Anyone got any ideas on how I waterproof the cut ends of mdf panelling? Had to remove the paneling from a newly "profesionally" installed bath to resecure the taps - water ingress into the mdf has occured already. Before I put the panels back I want to seal their end-grain (if you can call it that). Thanks

When Ive fitted kitchen sinks and hobs I paint the raw ends of the work tops with yatch varnish, does the job well.

Thin the varnish first coat a bit and it really soaks in.
Normal pva isn't fully waterproof.

Three coats of yacht varnish did the trick. It took till the 3rd coat for the varnish not to be absorbed into the mdf. Can't say the varnish brought out the beauty of the grain but its made the cheap & nasty stuff waterproof.

Thank you all for the advice
