More and more businesses (small and large) are turning to 'blogs'. The online software I'm using (three blogs in total) is Typepad..

This software also allows you to create fixed pages (like a normal website) and the blog itself can be very handy when you want to keep your customers etc up to date with new offers, new projects etc etc.
The Pro version costs around £ 80.00 and you don't even need a hosting site, that's all included.

One of our blogs we use for answering questions on wooden flooring, new products, downloadable leaflets etc.

Yep, I wondered about that - they're probably good for search engine optimisation as well: lots of "content" regularly updated.

Thanks for the idea.

Do you mean that there is a freeware version, or that it can be acquired illegally?

Anyone have any other recommendations for good (and preferably either free or cheap) web editing software? I'm still using 'vi' (or 'notepad' if I'm on Windows), and I think it may be time for me to come into the 21st century a bit. Or the 20th at least.

Kompozer - http://www.kompozer.net/ or HTMLKit - http://www.chami.com. Or if you use a Mac (like me) there's Page Spinner - http://www.optima-system.com/pagespinner/, or the king of the editors, BBEdit - http://www.barebones.com

Web design is like civil engineering, it has to work in a range of hostile conditions, images on or off, scripting on or off; screen resolutions (mine's 2250 x 1600); you'd be surprised how many sites are unreadable for me because of overlapping text at my preferred text size of 18px; and the default in most browsers is 16px. Then there's content order (for assistive technologies and small screens), relevant meta tags and matching text content (for search engines). And lots more.

Have fun!

cheers for all your help guys, i have had alot of feedback on this and things are looking positive, i will let you know how i get on

We're in Staffordshire if we can help:

You might want to put your email address in your profile and remove the link from your post.

Oh, what's the harm? He's only after some free advertising. ;)

I sense that it was, but it's also against the rules. ;)

Because you haven't ticked the box to enable others to see it!

Honestly didn't see the harm but post deleted . . .

You didn't have to delete the post, just remove the URL.

If you look in the profile you'll see that there's a place for web site details there. Putting it in a topic is against the rules - that's the harm, nothing more or less. The reason behind the rule is that the people who pay for advertising would be justifiably irked if people were to be allowed to do it for free - and I'm not implying that you did it to flout the rules.
