What’s a typical Texecom garage setup?

So, as it stands, only my home is secured on area A on my Texecom system.

I was going to buy a DT-W and use that in my garage, still linked to area A but it appears best practice would be to create a separate area B for the garage.

I’m thinking of a wireless keypad and a DT-W in the garage, set as entry/exit for 20 odd seconds so you can disarm if necessary via the garage keypad.

What would the pros do in this situation? My house keypad uses quick arm functionality, would it be possible to retain this?

Just to add, my garage can only be accessed via the typical roller door or the door at the back (no access via house)

Area A - House
Area B - Garage

Area A keypad has the ability to control both areas, Area B keypad can only control the garage.

Area A keypad retains quick arm functionality and on pressing "area" it arms both A and B.

Guessing this is pretty straightforward stuff?

Also, I note that door sensors are recommended for entry/exit, is it an issue using a DT-W PIR as entry/exit with a timer of 10 seconds to alarm if not unset?

My advice never use a PIR as E/E sensor, hard wired or wireless, although it can be done getting the settings right.

with pirs, the exit should be timed, but it shoudnt be done at all ideally

Thanks mate. That’s what I thought but will give it a go and if worse comes to worse I’ll get a couple of door contacts. Frustratingly excessive for 1 small room!

So, I'm in a position to kick this off (64-W) and have my wireless keypad for the garage and DT-W.

1. Learn both devices to the panel and assign to Area B (Garage)

Wintex in and make the following changes:

2. Rename Area B to "Garage".
3. Ensure the two users on my system have access rights to Area B.
4. DT-W to be Entry/Access (will chuck in door contacts if this doesn't work as expected)
5. Quick arm to be activated for garage keypad.

I'm confident with all of the above but want to know how I can allow my Area A (home keypad) to be able to arm/disarm the garage should I need to do so. I want my area A keypad to retain quick arm functionality for Area A only, is that possible?!

need to know exactly how you want it to work and then I would have to test to confirm.

The exact combinations of arming and disarming that require looking at:-

ie keypad areas
area arm suites
User arming disarming

certain options will affect how others will operate, so it can start to get a little more complicated

so for example

area A keypad only set to area A, when quick arming arms Area A
using the user code at keypad A would arm area A via the exit mode and area B instantly unless local arming is assigned to the user, in which case it would only look at arming area A, but cant remember if when asked do you want to arm and pressing the Area key you can select both areas and arm them with local arming on.

hence why how do you want it to work and can look at the programming but I would have to test it on the same model and firmware version you are on to ensure the same result.

Essentially I'm happy to have both keypads/areas running independently, which I think you'd agree should be a straight forward implementation?

My "nice to have" would be for the "home/Area A" keypad to be able to control the "garage/Area B" but retain quick arm functionality for Area A only, does that make sense!?

Also, if I did run both keypads/areas independently - If an alarm triggered in Area B, would the Area A keypad flag anything/allow disarming or are they completely separate?

keypads assigned to areas for example will only have sounds active for those areas.

there is no reason with a user assigned to both areas why you cant keep quick arm as that's independent of the user.

with the use assigned to both areas you should be able to arm, disarm and reset user resettable functions from either keypad

When I want access to the sheds I omit the 24 hour zone either through the App or by scanning the my tag and then pressing 9 (omit shortcut)

But can you customise quick arm to only arm a particular area?

I guess I will need to install and programme and then tweak accordingly.

Blimey, I can sense my wife feeling ill at the thought of that already. If it's not straightforward my life isn't worth living!

It would work for me but not for her unfortunately, I'm trying to replicate what we have in the house so she can't moan!
