The rest of the pipe is solvent welded.. Is it possible that the first join is push fit and the rest welded? - I thought I had read they weren't compatible

where the black pipe enters the branch is a ring seal joint, twist the pipe out then push in the access plug in your link.

I'd carefully cut the pipe and fit a socket and cap, as in newboy's link.

Pulling that black pipe out from the boss risks disturbing the o ring in the boss, and I have major doubts you'll get it to seal again around the new plug.

Thanks very much; I'll leave the pipe in and do as Newboy suggested.

I'd go so far as to get a MacAlpine universal coupling and put the access plug in that and the black "bastard size " Marley in the other end . I'm sure that stuff wasn't compatible with any other solvent weld - back in the day - I do know it was a thick wall pipe.

Plastic Soil has always been standard(y) . If you've got a set of callipers ( or something similar) you could check the Marley waste O.D. my memory might be inaccurate(n). You'd have to cut the soil pipe and insert a short length under your new fitting and join with a slip coupling - unless you can get the pipe to move up+down.

Ha, thats good to hear!. I was starting to to get the impression I'd never hear the word 'standard'..
