What goes through the mind of a judge ...

She pleaded guilty and cooperated, saving the state a lot of money. Had she not got a discount, there would be grounds for appeal.

I take nothing away from what she did, but the Judge would have taken this into account.

A bit more details on her motive

Tne media tend not to give background to killers as it spoils the horror of the story but it appears she was a gambling addict, and continued drawing a pension as a motive for the concealing the deaths. What she did was irrational for any human to do suggesting she was mad, but in order to carry it out she had to be sane. A classic Catch 22

It is said that there are a certain percentage of people who have no brain function of empathy. The worst of the Nazis were a classic example of their indifference to suffering and brutality. You can go too deep trying to understand it. Some people are just evil. Judges with their power and extra training and access to knowledge get to start to process them. I think the accused is bad , mentally ill and calculating. I would probabley be a Judge Jeffries for people like this.

Like I said, your opinion is irrelevant.
Wind your neck in, of course my opinion is irrelevant.

This is a forum (Google the definition) where we raise things for discussion.

99.9% of the time if not 100%, of course our opinions are irrelevant to the subject being discussed and its outcome.

Big deal, let them appeal.

Well she would and she'd win
Difficult to see how. She even told the police where the hammer was and that there was blood on it.

Mental aspects. Seems to be premeditated and planned for specific reasons. There appears to be ideas in this area that apply to all sorts of killers but not this one. Mild signs of certain conditions can figure even child development issues. Some we hear of rather regularly where parents notice and seek treatment. You might say social skills type.

Difficult to see how.
Because the judge has to take cognisance of any mitigating factors, which led him away from a whole life sentence.

If he hadn't considered those and ignored the sentencing guidelines, then she could have appealed.
