Oh dear. That's quite worrying. All I can say is that immediately after the valve the pipe splits in two: one pipe goes to the boiler and the other feeds cold water to the rest of the flat. When I turn that tap off it definately stops cold water flowing in the kitchen and everywhere else.
It was fitted by a Heatra Sadia approved engineer, so I didn't think anything of it.
