What have you been doing today?

Did a 30k mtb ride.
Chain derailed with 8k to go, got stuck in the stays, bent, then kept skipping gears:evil:

Spoiled an otherwise enjoyable 80 mins.....

I’ve been busy today installing my home Ethernet. When boarding out and laying my new floor, I laid some Cat5e cables under the floor. Already got them to the front of the hall where the router lives and to rear of the kitchen/diner where I have a cable inlet (if I ever go to cable again), so this morning I took up the lounge carpet and a few sections of floor and got two cables (for TV and Fire TV box) to the other side of the lounge. I fitted single wall plates to the diner and hall plus a double wall plate to the TV area. All cables went to the under stairs cupboard where I fitted an 8 way switch. Powered it up and viola! home Ethernet on the ground floor at least. It don’t half make a difference, speed and connection wise, compared to WiFi for the TV and Fire TV. Next job is to get a cable from the switch up to the loft where I can connect to an old WiFi router and from there to the CCTV DVR and TV's in the bedrooms. The router should also give me a strong WiFi signal in the bedrooms. Very pleased with my work and I didn’t make a single **** up when connecting to the wall plates or the RJ45 connectors. :)

After I’d finished the downstairs Ethernet I went over the allotment as I hadn’t been there for a few day’s and harvested some more tomatoes, beetroot, 'ping pong' white radishes and golden courgettes. Going to give those away to friends and neighbours.

Go on make me jealous, how big are these lawns and are they yours?

Andy

Technically they are not 'mine', as I am a tenant, but obviously I accept responsibility for keeping the gardens neat and tidy.

This is a picture of the main one about 6 months ago after removal of a pathway and waiting for the new grass to grow and blend in with the present lawn.
The other lawn is about half to 2/3rds the size over towards the right. Got the front ones to do before work on Friday if the weather holds but they are much smaller.

I tiled 3/4’s of my porch
Did similar to yours, did a few weeks back. We've got good taste

Nearly did black edging like you as looks smarter imo, but basically couldn't be bothered. Brick porch is very uneven!

Just cleaned the outsides of all the windows. 18 DG units plus front and back doors and a set of french doors with two glazed units at the side.

I've heard the local cleaner is charging £35 per standard house these days. As ours is not 'standard', i.e. it has been extended to twice the size of the original, I think I've probably saved myself near enough £70 (and done a better job in my opinion). :)

Our house has more glass than brick on the front and back plus four side windows. 27 DG units in total plus front door with side panel and triple patio doors. Our window cleaner with the pure water and pole system charges us £12 for the whole house. I always said I wouldn’t like to do that for £12. Mind you, he only lives across the road so there’s no travelling time involved.

That 'pure' water is a faff. When I was a window cleaner at Center Parcs last year a company would come in and do the outside windows on a selection of lodges. Out would come the long hose attached to a brush pole. 10 minutes to go round all the windows on a lodge and no wipe down with a rubber blade afterwards. 10 minutes after they had moved on the windows were streaky and grimey with the dust from the forest. When I asked one guy why they didn't swipe a rubber over them he said the water is pure and when it dries it doesn't leave streaks or runs. He refused to come back to the lodge and see when I said yes it does.

Honestly, our one leaves them wet and they dry without a steak or mark. As I said, the bloke lives in my street and when I walk the dog in the morning he is filling up the tank in his van with pure water. He has a purifier in his garage and he brews his own. (y)
