What have you been doing today?

Took the camper for a spin, wanted to make sure it started ready for MOT tomorrow, had to clear out all my stuff, been using it as an office

Took Mrs Mottie and 9 friends out for a celebratory birthday meal. Went to one of our favourite local restaurants and we arrived at 5.00. We planned to be away by 7.30 so we could all get to our homes to watch the match. First problem, they were only doing a Sunday menu and not the full á la carte. They do a fantastic Chateaubriand. Never mind, had a word with the waitress, she checked with the chef and he was happy to do it as four of the party wanted it. We ordered our drinks, our starters and our mains. Not long after, the waitress said goodbye as she was going home and wished my wife a happy birthday. We had our drinks, spent some time chatting and before we knew it, it was 6.15. I saw the chef walk by and called him over and asked what was happening with our meals. He went off and came back telling us that the waitress hadn’t put the order in! Fuuuuck! He apologised profusely, took our order again but we said to forget the starters. He sent over copious dishes of olives and bread etc on the house and we got our meals. We ordered desserts but had to forgo the soufflés as we were running short on time. We left at 7.40. I'd just got home, turned the TV on and Goooaaaall. Anyway, meal only cost me £426 and I was expecting double that so a bit of a result in the end. Right, second half is on now. COME ON ENGERLAND!

We’re in Bath at the moment for Mrs Motties big birthday and we’ve just come back from a 'tasting menu' meal. I’ve never had one of those types of meals before but it was a birthday treat so I pushed the boat out. It was one of those places where they explained every dish they put in front of you. Anyway, it was bloody delicious and even though the portions were tiny, at the end of it we had had just enough. Not to little and not too much. The tuna 'course' was about 1” cubed, the ravioli was just….one ravioli and the main course of lamb was disappointing in size but again, very, very tasty. I’d do it again.

We did a 19 course tasting menu at Simon Rogans Lenclume, fantastic, the waiters & staff were theatrical, might do one more for a big birthday

Last day today, home tomorrow. Went to the fashion museum this morning and in the afternoon we took an hours drive to visit Mrs Motties mate in some remote village who moved from Upminster a few months ago. She laid on a spread followed by a cream tea followed by a birthday cake. We left there stuffed to the gills. Had a few drinks in the hotel and that’s it for today. I normally walk a few miles a day but we've been averaging 7 or 8 miles a day this week and all that got me was a bloody great blister on my heel. I’ll be glad to get home for a rest!

Went to a job this morning to disconnect & reconnect some kit, the guy organising it had tested positive so called off, went for bike ride, did some ordering, Mrs CB announced she was up for a ride after work, ( no hills, no cattle grids) but we went anyway

Home now. As nice a Bath is, it’s basically no different from any other UK town with regards to crime. The bridge we had to cross every day to get from our hotel to the city centre was closed off this morning due to a stabbing last night. We used to see a few undesirables on that bridge every night on our way back to the hotel. It was a good job we came home this morning as we would have had a bloody long walking detour to cross the river get into the city centre.

Cycled out into the country near Severn Bridge to country pub, only to find it closed because of a Covid outbreak. Onto another one but they said they close at 3pm - was past 2.30 when I arrived. Luckily the 3rd and final choice opens all day, but I was bloody knackered in the heat after all that messing around. Took me 3 pints of Thatchers Gold to cool down in the beer garden while I eat my sandwiches hoping no one would notice. Could wring my shorts out when I got home - too bloody hot for cycling!

Cut and edged all the lawns, trimmed all the hedges to a nice height and faced them off on both sides, (garden and pavement), cleaned and stowed all my tools then went for a shower. Surprised my wife by announcing we were going out for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary, (4 years last mid week), and our Handfasting anniversary, (2 years also mid week but different date).
Went to a steak house called Cheers were a set price got you all you could eat and as much sangria or soft drinks as you wanted. You cooked your own steaks on a hot plate on the table so you are in control of how you want it.

Got family coming round today so just been over the allotment to harvest some beetroot, salad leaves and new potatoes. Had a good crop from the new potatoes, they are going to taste superb when boiled with some butter, mint, salt and black pepper.
