Today I took a pair of Goretex walking boots back to Ellis-Brigham that I had bought only last September for. £160. I had already changed them once in April because one of them leaked. Well, yesterday one of the replacement pair leaked so I took them back but I knew I may have been pushing my luck as there was a sharp cut (possibly from a thorn) right where the leak was. As suspected, the shop said that the leak was due to damage and not faulty goods but because I am a regular customer and had had bad luck with those boots, as a gesture of goodwill they would refund me. They said they couldn’t change them because they had been replaced by the manufacturer but they could refund me (?) They refunded me the £160 and I bought another pair so I get a full two years warranty again. As I had a result on that, I bought a pair of Rab Goretex over-pants. Not cheap at £160 but I had had a result with the boots so the least I could do was buy something else from that shop. Thing was, as Mrs Mottie reminded me, when I took them back last time and they sent them away telling me it would be a month or so before they could be tested, I bought another pair online. As it happened the boots came back before I’d even taken the other boots out of the box and used them so I should have just spent the refund on the trousers as I still have a brand new pair of boots in the cupboard. Doh!
