What have you bought today?

I think I'm stuck in the 80s with pricing.
Last time I got a skip it was £30 for a mini. But I suppose in those days it was all thrown into a hole and buried. These days, so much is segregated and recycled.

Same with car parts, I remember nipping to Halfords and buying an oil filter and a gallon of cheapie 20/50 for my Metro and having change from a tenner......

Or thrown in a hole and buried. Yesterday I ordered some leather samples as I could do with one of my car seat panel repairing, the pattern was hard to find, so hopefully one of them will be a good match.

Started my Christmas shopping today. Ordered a pair of Ugg indoor slippers and a Neom sleep diffuser for Mrs Mottie.

What I haven't bought - cigarettes! Day 7 of non-smoking. :D
Well done. Took me three attempts. First time I lasted 3 months, next time 9 months and finally been fag free for about 18 years now. Put on a fair bit of weight though and just having finished my lunch, I could still have a fag right now but I won’t - I’ll just have a second lunch! Anyway, I’d better fill up while I can as it’s 'meat free Monday' in our house today. Oh joy! :(

Wasn't Oscar Wilde quoted as saying "Quitting smoking is easy :I've done it hundreds of times ."?

Yeah, I hear that fancying a cig never goes away.. ho hum! You've gone very well though, 18 years!

I've got an incentive this time, all the money being spent at the dentist - and vanity wanting it to work :) 50% of those implants that fail is down to smoking, so I really have to try. The morning one is the hardest, I've had a cig and a cuppa for breakfast for years, lol.

Well, it hasn’t for me. I can only equate the craving for a cigarette to be the same craving when you are hungry and it’s hard to give up food so, I 'snack'. I shudder to think what my lungs would be like now though had I not given up - I was wheezing going up a flight of stairs 20 years ago!

Well, a few extra pounds shouldn't kill you so quick! I remember my parents going on a diet to lose weight before they stopped smoking coz they knew it would happen!
I've not had much of an appetite for weeks, so am ok on that front so far. Since Jan I had developed a smokers cough and in just 3 days, that went. Amazing :)

What I haven't bought
What I haven’t bought today was a two family get together/DIL birthday celebration at Centre Parcs. Just received my deposit back. Just the Christmas break to cancel and that’s all my holiday deposits back for this year.

I smoked for about 10 years, I then tried Champix,(prescription drug).
After 1 week I stopped smoking, and have never fancied one since.
Other attempts to stop failed miserably.
That's the drug that was originally used for something else isn't it? Someone told me once that it had been given to prisoners and they noticed the side effect that they were stopping smoking :)

You go on a lot of holidays! :) Hope next year be better - if there are any travel companies/airlines left..

Well done, keep it up. Since starting this new job I am now down to 10 a day from around 18-20 but my 'problem' is I enjoy smoking so, to me, cutting to half is a good way to be going. Maybe one day I will stop completely but I can't see that happening in the near future.

Yes, I enjoy it too.. that certainly is half the trouble.
But if you're down to 10, that's still better than 20! Mine had crept up to about 25 in lockdown boredom. Easy done with time on hands.
Still enjoying the new job?

Started smoking when I was 11. Well, it was the 70s. My namesakes were never without a cig - amazed they had the energy to run after the blaggers then rough them up. Suppose they set a bad example to us kids watching our TV heroes. Used to really enjoy smoking - proper Rothmans in 70s/80s were good. Gave up decades ago though after a few failed attempt. Anyway, they don't taste so good these days. The modern firesafe cigarettes that go out if you don't keep dragging on them taste foul. Still bizzarely like the smell of smoke and find myself walking closer to someone if they're having a quick gasper. Far too bad for health and wealth though to consider taking up again. Though I sometimes find myself considering a fat Cuban from the specialist cigar shop in the centre of Bristol when I'm in the area.
