What have you bought today?

Damn! I just got charged £29.51 for broadband at my workshop. Not bad I suppose - that’s all I’ve paid since having it installed in July 2019. I even had a £42 credit applied for the muck up they made of the switchover.

More Freddie’s ****ing flowers arrived at 5.50 this morning!

Mrs Mottie phoned to cancel a while ago as even she thought they weren’t good value but was persuaded to carry on with her subscription at a 50% discount for a few weeks so £12.50 for a £25 bunch. Bear in mind they are delivered loose in a box and you have to cut and arrange them yourself. I’m sure this mornings offering is not worth £25. I have never denied Mrs Mottie flowers as she loves 'em but I might have to, er, mention it quietly and hope she listens.

Well, all delivered flowers are expensive. But as far as delivered flowers go, 12.50 is a good price.

Possibly but £25 when it’s a diy job? Hmmm. This is the instructions and what they are supposed to look like when they open.

Starting to look a bit better. I suppose I shouldn’t expect them to be in full bloom when they arrive!

Ordered a pink jacket that Mrs Mottie has been umming and arring over for a while as a surprise for her. She was holding off in case it came up in a sale but I found a 20% off discount code. Something she can wear on our first date out when proper restaurants open up again. I might get a matching one for myself!

Fitting a new condensing tumble dryer in the utility room.
Youngest stepson promised to give me a hand to get it in when it arrived, (delivery was to be kerbside only, due to Covid), but it arrived at 7.30am Delivery guys carried it up the drive and into the breakfast room. Brilliant! Stepson was still in bed of course.
It was around 5.30 tonight when he asked when was it coming. Couldn't believe he hadn't seen it popping in and out of the utility room several times during the day.
Also fitted a new roller blind in his studio room and fixed a dodgy floorboard in the same room.
The only thing I did for myself was fit a new headlamp to my car.

£160 odd for the weekly shop in Sainsbury's (it's definitely gone up over the last year) £80 on plants for the missus, £8 at the bakers, £16 at the butchers (jumbo pack of sausages) £13 for a cutlery drying pot thing, it's no wonder I'm skint.

(delivery was to be kerbside only, due to Covid),

I notice that Howdens are still charging £90 for a kitchen delivery despite the fact they drop in on the pavement rather than help you in with it.
I'll be having a ******* word with them about that.

My argument about kerbside drop offs is what if the customer is a pensioner or a disabled person?
If this had been a weekday drop off and they had dropped it at the kerb there is no way my wife would have been able to bring it indoors as she is disabled. My youngest stepson, albeit he is a strapping 6'3" has Aspergers. He may have been able to move it on to the driveway but he would not have been able to get it up a step and thrugh a door into a very small hallway. It would have frustrated him when it simply didn't go through the door and this could result in him having a 'meltdown'.

These drivers are togged up with appropriate PPE such as masks, face shields, gloves etc and householders also have to be in PPE and keep a safe distance. They could easily bring large items into a house and place it were it would cause an obstruction until the householder got someone to install it for them.
And the company's are still charging full delivery prices.
As I said in my post, these guys were great and brought it into the breakfast room. I could then manage to get it through to the utility room and install it. An hour after installing it my wife went on the website to give feedback and thank the drivers when she discovered they were offering a price match on the same item from Monday 12th She logged into a web chat with some guy and with no fuss he promised to give her an £80 refund because the price would also drop on by that amount on Monday. Confirmation email arrived 10 minutes later.

Howdens, with their 'trade only' policy don't like dealing with the public, they never have done but did out of necessity. They are milking the covid restrictions, I have a woman who has decided on her units (only because I invited her to my home to see mine) but she's undecided on a sink and taps and needs to see them, despite the fact that shops are open from the 12th, Howdens are saying she can make an appointment and they'll fetch a sample out to the car park.

The delivery contractors for Howdens, who are only doing kerbside deliveries are also house removal contractors and will happily move furniture into someone's house.
