I have been trying to get a tiler to tile my bathroom for over 2 months now.

Phoned 12 tilers up.

10 didnt even turn up.

The 2 that did, both measured up, told me they would phone and post the estimate through, but have not even bothered to do that.

No wonder the buliding trades in this country have such a bad name.
You cant even give the work away. Tossers.

Can't you get a recommendation? A guy just finished replacing my bannisters, including newel posts and spindles. He arrived when he said he would (8am on the dot yesterday morning), worked throught till 6.00pm and then spent 30 mins cleaning up. Back this morning at 8am and finished this afternoon. The work is first class, he patched up the walls with plaster- even the smallest holes; he said he wasn't goint to take all the rubbish away but it is all bagged and stacked neatly outside. The floor and stairs are spotless and he even had dust-sheets down on the drive under his saw and router bench. He charged £280 which I reckon worked out at about £18/hour.

Yeah - I mean, tiling is dead easy, isn't it.

No trouble at all to get a good result.

I didn't intimate it was dead easy, but it's also usually not very difficult either, and it is a DIY forum.

What part of UK :?: ...decoarators are £120. a day and Spreads c.£180 here in Sussex ;) Bleedin CORGI`s £100. a visit

A tiler once told me that the work involved in tiling a bathroom ( smallish ) is not worth doing because the clients think just because it's not a big bathroom, then the price will be very cheap. Cheap as in 1/2 the price he would charge. Some jobs are not profitable. time x money.

i was once given the advice to charge as much for a small room as a big one when carrying out any work. The amount of time you spend taking materials in and out and working in small awkward spaces again and again to cut them etc, where you dont have enough room to set up properly etc sometimes make that seem a very profound statement!

I would tile it myself, if I could, the tiles are limestone and ruddy expensive.
I'm good with most things but this is out of my league. And the last two guys came from that Checkatrade site where everyone is supposed to be vetted and monitored.

I agree. Like a great many things it's 80% preparation...

What size are the tiles and how flat are your walls? No tiler wants to mess about with big tiles on a p i s s e d wall.

yes gcol is right, how many people want to hear " I'll do it, but it will look awful because your walls are very uneven".
