Yes. Tbh it should in theory, be a two man job because the screens are sometimes heavy and difficult to get into place. But I normally work on my own. I know I havn't seen the site but personally I think £600 is excessive.

£250 or £600 may be fair - it may not.

We don't kmow the weight, quality, vehicle access, space to work in, how many floors up the bathroom is, perceived attitude of client.

We do know that if the decor or unit is damaged due to one man struggling, the client will be looking for compo. inwhich case there won't ne much wage left from £250 after time, materials, overheads and compensation.

I would have thought that Starman would have got another quote.

Unfortunately you are taking a blinkered customer view as only wanting to pay for what you see.

How can I get a second person on site for £20 when I may need him for 10m min at 0912 and again at 1143 for 10 min?

The reality is that I have to engage someone for the whole day as I need him to be there even if his help is just for 10 min twice but at an unknown time.

OK a skilled person is not needed so any labourer will do but they need about £100 a day and most want it paid with cash! They usually need to be collected and returned home taking more time.

So I give you a receipt for the job and have to pay tax etc. so that £100 actually costs about £145 !

If I tried to keep the cost down by asking you to pay cash without a receipt then you see me as dodgy and could report me for something.

So if a second person is required then that increases the cost by about £145 !

But even so £600 sounds very expensive.

Of course then there is the customer!

They can be the labourer. Moving bricks would be fine.

But lifting a two man item requires them to be capable of reliably lifting.

Those who work in manual occupations could be fine. But an accountant, solicitor or doctor are not accustomed to joint lifting.

They can suddenly let go because:

Their back "goes".

Their wife calls them.

They hear a bee in the room.

They think the item is too heavy for them!


The reality is that lifting is a two person job and needs both to concentrate on it 100% and to lift together and consider foot positions etc.

He wouldn't know that you have to bin all the supplied screws before starting and take a course in broken English to be able to read the instructions (If you get any that is)
