What screws/plugs to use to attach skirting to a solid wall?

Red plugs are for fannying about. Leave these for the electricians. Use brown plugs (the hard type).

Use 6.5mm or 7mm masonry bit. We use the 6.5mm in softer material and the 7mm in hard stuff.

Use either 70mm or 100mm length screws. 4mm size will be ok,

Use adhesive (CT1 is brill but expensive) on smaller pieces.

Use two part super glue (glue and spray)on the mitres.

You can fill out any plaster recesses by gluing bits of timber packers etc into the holes or re-plaster as the others have said.

Good rawl plugs (top image), pants plugs (bottom image)........

Got some 4mm * 70mm screws now, but have noticed that I'd need to countersink to have a good finish. What type and size of countersink do I need for this job? Thanks.

Hi GSXRCarlos, I have and I likely will. Any idea about the countersink size?

i'd fit 2x1 or slate batten to the wall, as others have said, small drill hole first, through the 2x1 and the use a 7mm bit with brown plugs to fit the grounds to the wall. Use a larger drill bit to sink the head into the 2x1. then you should be able to fit the new skirting directly to the grounds, just avoid your new screw heads if nailing!!!
