What should I have done

So I'm in the quietest isle in supermarket picking up ice cream and Brussels. There is a shopper family (mother/daughter?/friend?/kids). No sign of a trolly or basket but the mother has a large wheelie bag which she is repacking obviously having placed her shopping in before going to the checkout.

Looked so much like she was reducing the quantity of goods she would pay for at the checkout.

Should I have reported it to the store staff/security or turn a blind eye?

In my way out I did see said group at a self checkout.

My thoughts was I should report my concerns but also if I did would she know it was me who reported her and would they follow me home?

In the end I didn't see a store person in my way through the store until I was in my out.

The collective thoughts please.

Leave well alone I say, you know nothing about them or indeed who they're connected to. You could be kicking off a whole lot of grief for yourself.

I don't care if folk look on it as being cowardly or whatever, my approach especially these days is not to get involved in anything, folk seemed to get beaten up, stabbed or worse for next to nothing.

I always use my own bag rather than a basket (when I don't need a trolley)- I find a basket with something heavy in it uncomfortable to carry. My view is that as long as I pay for what I leave with, it makes no difference how I carry it. People may think I'm stealing too?

Supermarkets have CCTV covering the aisles a staff member monitoring the system will have probably picked it up .

If I could have had an unobserved word with a store employee I would have done, if not then let it go. They should have CCTV.



Moons ago I saw a scam go down (ooh how very Eastenders) in a WHSmith.
A woman gave a tot something to steal and told him to run out with it and wait for her.
I caught him. I only had one hand free so I picked him up by one upper arm. Kid kicked off, I suppose it hurt.
When I got back to the shop the woman was going ape, manager said thanks but told me to scarper or I'd get arrested.

I "Witnessed" a car denting in a car park once - got no thanks, just a load of grief. I doubt I'd bother now.

That's my point, unless it's something that directly affects you and/or a loved one or friend, leave it. Having said that, obviously there will always be exceptions.

If I woke up to the noise of 2 or 3 teens jumping all over my car, I'd leave them to it. For me, opening the door to confront them to possibly be set upon isn't worth it. I'd sooner be alive with a fecked car than severely injured or worse with the car more intact ...

You'll be amazed how little the Staff are allowed to intervene with shop lifting and plod wont even bother for theft below £50 and are unlikely to even turn up below £200.

Unfortunately we live in a world where the honest customers subsidise the thieves.

It is also important to know, that without seeing her actually take the items from the shelf, hide them and walk out without paying, you have nowhere near enough to suspect a crime. She could easily have purchased the items from another shop.

My mate caught some one attempting to break into his shed in the early hours as he went out the door he grabbed a shovel / spade by his back door

Said bloke saw him ( he had a screwdriver or some thing like that in his hand )

He did a runner down the drive but tripped up my mate walked down drive and cracked him one with the shovel

He got arrested over the affair suspected assault

A few years ago, I saw some tea leafs on the cctv trying to Nick my scooter round the back of my workshop. I introduced one of them to my good fried - Mr Scaffold Pole. He made a considerable dent on his helmet.

That’s what my son said afterwards - go for the legs! I didn’t think but if he hadn’t have been wearing a helmet, I’d be up on a serious charge, I didn't half belt him one.
