I've got 8x2 roof joists on my garden room, so ripped some in half to create 8x1 backing fascia. I'm using 9mm capping upvc fascia and was wondering what size polytop will be sufficient. Depth of timber backing and upvc is about 32mm. Will 30mm doubled up next to each other hold the upvc fascia. If moving to 40mm, will going through the total depth reduce hold? TIA

30mm will be fine. They are ring shank, so they grip like a gibbon. Fix in pairs every 800mm - one top one bottom

A little tip for you, when I fitted UPVC facia I first put a thin screw in just to hold it in position whilst I got the level and position right then put a polytop in somewhere else - took out the screw and replaced with a polytop. Even part way in they do not want to come out if you make a mistake.
