Sorry but some of the info your giving conflicts a little.. probably cos your still not settled on final details..
You have a suspended floor at one end of your garage!? Sorry im finding it hard to visualise, some form of toilet? or is this attached to the main building? Maybe an internal garage? If so its turning from "just a garage" to a major complication..
You say theres to be a pitched roof on this, but then suggest no ceiling members, will there be roof ties higher up? Or is it in the intension to use this steel beam as the roof support? Or will the pitch have its own independant ridge beam?
Maybe some photos/plans will help?
ps.. you should check with a roller door manufacturer about your idea of external mounting they will know if its possible..
I realise that may have sounded a little strange! It is a "standard" garage (if there is such a thing!) of 7.7m x 4.1m with walls of 3m high to eaves. In the rearmost part, I have made provision for some storage at a height of 2m from floor, extending from rear gable by 2.4m. This will be hung from the side walls aswell. I have allowed a couple of 7x3 joists to sit there for supporting the other joists.
The roof will have a ridge board and rafters in 4x2 holding sterling boards and then a sheet of visqueen followed by profile sheeting. I don't anticipate this will be very heavy and will allow for a couple of mid purlins (in wood) if necessary. There will be no "ceiling joists" as I would like the internal height for storage of well, long things stood upright!!
There are no external buildings attached and no toilet either in or outside the garage!!
Sorry if I didn't explain very well - maybe I still haven't?
I will try and sort out some sort of picture to assist if I can get to grips with doing that on a pc!
