Public subsidy and price fixing. Imagine the up roar if we did it. I have to say, I hardly drink wine anymore. I prefer G&T or beer. I tend to only drink French wine when in France. They hardly ever export the good stuff at a reasonable price.

When I was in Spain recently, I managed to get my lager drinking philistine mate to drink Rioja with his steak. He was asking for a bottle on ever sitting after that. :)
rioja is a fine wine.. and when in Spain...

Maybe get him on to Malbec? IMO French wine is over rated.

I'm off to France in a week to meet some French clients - I am bringing them English Champaign.

Those £3.95 bottles of Pinot Grigio sold in supermarkets aren't wine, if you served it to the French they'd laff at you.

I'm quite partial to a bottle (or two) of Freixenet Ice, which is £11-£12 in the UK but about £3.95 in France.

French wine, in general, is a much lower standard than new world wine.

I very rarely buy french

They should give a bottle to every migrant crossing the channel: a bottle o' red n' a tin o' cheesy footballs will guarantee a welcome in the Home Counties. :p

I can't believe a man like you would mix with a philistine.

Last time I was in Brittany, I went to a place that sold wine by the litre -I took in an empty milk bottle which was filled to the brim with a nice Merlot for about 7 Euros for 2 litres -better than most wines Ive drunk in UK
