WHEN YOU ARE 3000+ MILES AWAY.....

The full english breakfast that gcol mentioned is a great start to a day, but it is usually the preserve of the long distance lorry driver, and for the rest of us less calorie-conscious people on the occasional day off work when we have time to prepare it! More commonly eaten on sundays.

Or..... (my only sin, well only?) during business breakfast meetings as I did this morning at 6.30am ;)
(and I did restrain myself ;)

gcol,

It's only the English with big mouths I can't go,
most are okay.

Just watch your waist line.

Scott.

Sounds like you have issues with the English there Scott.

Don't you worry about my waistline. I'm 6'2" and 13 stone. That makes me just about right. :D

mlb3c, have you ever visited the UK on holiday(vacation) or on business?

Are there any aspects of our lives that may be of particular interest to you?

I have been to the US around 12 times or so and have also been to the Caribbean about 6 times where I have inevitably met many Americans. From my experience I gather life is very similar in the US to the UK, for the average person.

I have heard comments about you working longer hours and getting less time off than us. Plus apparently it is much more expensive here for most things, particularly property. That said most of you seem to admire our NHS and some seem to think we are quaint.

Tell us more about yourselves, so we can answer you better.

And before you ask, no I haven't met the Queen. ;)

gcol,

You are wrong yet again it’s only the ones with big mouths I can’t go “gcol”

masona,

What previous post are you referring to?

Hmmm, I've noticed that from his previous post.

How would you feel? I think the scots have the right to their issues, especially considering Saturday 15/04/1961.... ;)

My wife and I moved back from the USA to the UK last year and we are much happier with life here, most people we run into think we are crazy because their only experience of life in America is watching Friends or going to Florida for 2 weeks a year. In reality life is tough - you think the traffic is bad on the M25 try I70 in Colorado at rush hour much worse, Health insurance if you have none it costs $5000 to break an ankle! Car insurance at lest $350 per month $2000 a year car tax. and if you run your own buisness how can you budget for petrol if it was $1.20 and 6 months later it is over $3.50. Life is also tough if you work outside as its -30 in the winter and 100 in the summer with the joy of nice animals such as snakes (I got chased by one whilst working on a new build project) and bears (knocked my bins over).

On the other hand regular folk I know are very nice and very intrested in where you are from etc (unlike some brits who just love to knock Americans) it seams it is just the US Gov who are @#$% and every day people are nice. My wife (born in Texas) is for ever being asked about the Pres and she just says "well I voted for the other guy, what more could I have done" so true.

I do miss some things like proper mountains and the skiing and going biking in the desert which is hard to do in Essex!

I think we are more similar than people think - we worry about the economy - house prices - the countryside - our kids and our families.

Get youself to Stanstead (sp?) and in two hours all these things could be yours for the taking....well....maybe not the desert part....but plenty of pretty cool cycle routes non the less.

No, Stansted doesn't have mountains.

Plenty of gorgeous Essex girls, though.

I live under the flightpath to Stansted!!!!!

I do get a few trips away each year but it is not the same as being 50mins drive to Summit County with A basin, Keystone or Breckenridge to go skiing on a week day when pulling a sicky!!!!

JohnD i seem to remember you liking Essex girl in another post
