Mine is in a secure location in a downstairs room, completely hidden. Video can be viewed on the main TV via the TV's computor input when necessary. Live video fron the NVR is also available in the bedroom TV's external video input. Control of the NVR is by a USB mouse that connects via a dual USB socket on the wall with concealed cable to the NVR. The second USB socket is for downloading files to a USB stick.

In the loft, mounted on cantilever brackets on a gable wall in a 2 fan lockable safe box (more for the ventilation / cooling benefits rather than security)
2 USB leads and a HDMI lead from DVR dropped down in a studded wall with a modular face plate with 2 USB and 1 HDMI socket in my office / study below, HDMI lead to monitor, 1 USB Socket for the mouse and the other for USB memory stick for upgrading firmware or importing / exporting video.
Works really well and very neat and tidy.
Remote viewing via Hikvision iVMS4500 app on iPhone and iPad.

Mines in the first floor loft space, with two ethernet cables coming down to the sitting room for Ethernet to HDMI and Ethernet to USB for control. This is displayed on a separate TV for 24 hour viewing.

Hi @SandyLyon I have the same app as you. Just a quick question can you export videos from the app to WhatsApp etc?

Run cat 5/6 put the hdmi /USB adaptors at each end ...or run hdmi lead and USB if within 15m

Thanks I am well under 10m but don’t know if I can fish a hdmi cable down inside the stud wall beside the phone & aerial cable so was looking at alternatives, I should say this is for my mothers house and I definitely can’t touch the walls, so wondered about the adaptors

Example some require 1 cat 5 some require 2 ( found the 2nd one normally carries the audio)

Not sure James, whenever I’ve needed to export video, I’ve always done it via the DVR menu to a USB drive, although I have captured a still from the app and sent that by WhatsApp

Yeah I am not always at home to do that. I can export a picture with no problem but with videos I get a message saying this video could not be sent. please choose a different video

Many thanks for 5he replies will hopefully get to her this week and see if I can fish the hdmi down through the stud or go the Ethernet route
