I've splashed out on some new dewalt 5AH batteries to replace my 4AH which were getting on a bit. As usual I buy a kit and sell the rest to pay for the batteries. I'm just wondering whether I should "upgrade" the charger; I'm using the one from my DCD 996 (fairly high end) purchased years ago and it still works fine.

The options are below. I did think the new one would be better (maybe faster charging) until I checked the specs on the back??

i have 2 of these came with the kit tools i purchased , and they work on 5Ah batteries OK
NOT a fast charger - BUT to be honest i dont need a fast charger for DIY - and have 3Ah batteries which i often use while the 5AH is charging - BUT i only use the 5AH for the circular saw, planer and angle grinder. all other tools i use the lighter batteries 2Ah x2 or 3Ah x2

i have the yellow fast charger but never use it for 4 or 5anp batteries
rapid charge in my opinion can reduce battery life so needing the power urgently would be the only reason i can see for using it on 18v batteries

having said that the 1104 charges the 54v batteries as well and when it says a 9ah is ready it means it has reached the maximum it can give out [i assume just over 6 amp] because when you put them on the yellow fast charger the charging carries on for some time not just mins tens off mins
