Hello, I'm replacing an existing ceiling rose and replacing it with a new light fixture. when i unscrewed the rose I discovered it has 8 wires coming from the ceiling (pictured) - 3 brown, 3 blue and 2 yellow/green.

my new fixture has 3 terminals for L, N and Earth. Do I just connect all 3 brown wires to the L, the 3 blues to the N and the 2 yellow/green to Earth? Apologies if this is a obvious problem. Thanks

The 3 brown wires connect together in an insulated terminal block ,or wago ,that you must provide. They do not connect in any way to the light fitting .
The blue wire on far left side is the switched live ,should be sleeved in brown pvc. That alone connects to the new fittings live terminal. The two blue neutrals ( far right in pic) connect to the neutral terminal. The earth's connect to the earth terminal.

There should be enough room - leave the rose in place. Don't remove any wires.
Connect the old blue and brown (that go to the bulb socket on the pendant) to the blue and brown of the new light. Run a new length of earth cable from the rose earth to the new light's earth. Simples

I expect the fixing bracket would need to be screwed to the ceiling ,and the rose would be in the way. So maybe not so straightforward .

thanks guys, all very helpful.

so can I assume, if I were able to secure the bracket behind the rose, then I could simply connect the existing blue and brown as suggested by Taylortwocities and run a new Earth?

It's the latest fashion in electrical accessories markings !!!

The part I didn't mention earlier; it could look quite plausible to thouse who call
