Which laser measuring device?

Somebody mentioned the difficulty of seeing the red spot in bright light. If this is a regular problem you should try a pair of red laser glasses. They cost about ten quid and are a bit like red sunglasses. When you put them on you can see the red spot in the brightest of sunshine.

I did mention jeds in my original posting that even with the enhancement glasses, the spot is still very difficult to see in some bright light levels, and even using the highly reflective target plates.

I think they work really well. Without them the dot is more or less invisible most of the time. With them it is highly visible most of the time. Got to be worth ten quid.
