If wanting brick slips fitted to the inside back wall of a fireplace, who should I be looking for to do this - a tiler or a bricklayer? That is, given that a brick slip is essentially a form of tile. Thanks.
OP,
Best practice would be to:
1. Clean off all soot etc from all three fireplace walls.
2. Float a couple of coats of 3:1 lime mortar to even out the background - ie plumb & flat.
3. Use either mortar or adhesive to fix the brick slips.
To achieve the lime mortar does that simply mean adding hydrated lime to a sand/cement mortar mix? Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of adding lime?
I guess that is non-hydrated lime. I had looked lime up on my local builders merchants website and they only had hydrated lime, but easy to get sand and cement.
