I've said it before, and many don't admit it, often it comes down to envy and/or possibly not understanding the ins and outs. And of course with people struggling financially due to the perfect economic storm we're living through, tensions will be even higher when stories like this break.
Assuming nothing illegal is going on, then it's almost if not entirely a non story.
Imagine you started a business and a decade later you were worth hundreds of millions. Your financial/tax advisors tell you this ... 'this tax year you only have to pay £1.6 million in tax. However, if you want to do everything from a moral perspective, you could pay £3.4 million. How would you like us to proceed?'
How many people, hand on heart, can honestly say they'd pay the latter?
Person in 2005: It's an absolute disgrace what CEOs earn! I read of one that takes home £3 million a year!!!
Same person in 2020: I'm proud to be CEO of Acme Ltd. (The person is earning £3 million a year.)
I wonder if the CEO will give 75%+ of their remuneration away each year? I'm assuming yes cause in 2005 they said it was a disgrace for someone to earn such an amount.
