Why are we wasting resources on this?

I really don't understand why they're so concerned. If they want to go there, why not?

If they're worried about them coming back and committing terrorist activities, well they know who they are and they should not let them back in.

I could understand it if they wanted to confiscate their passports having left the UK.

I, too, am mystified why the police are bothered about them going - coming back, yes.

There was a story (Saturday I think - the councillor's son) about nine of them being sent back from Turkey but NO charges were being brought.

That means, presumably, that they have done nothing wrong - so, why are they not allowed to go to Turkey, for some reason a popular holiday destination.

The article stated that the councillor's son was glad to be back in Britain ???
Did he go by accident?

Trouble is these people lie through their teeth - a religious requirement, apparently. So how can we be sure when they say they didn't mean to go, or they saw sense and came back?
How can we be sure that they haven't come back to do some beheading or to let off some bombs?

Hmm, Marmaris and the Mediterranean resorts are popular holiday destinations. As far as I'm aware, the towns that border Syria, aren't exactly popular holiday destinations.

So, what you are saying is it is illegal to go to Turkey other than recognised holiday resorts and you will be deported but no charges will be brought against you.

I didn't say that at all. You implied that Turkey is a popular holiday destination. I merely pointed out that the Turkish Med resorts are popular holiday destinations, not the Turkish/Syrian border towns. ;) ;)

Is it part of the Qur'an?

Does anything similar exist in the Bible, or any other "mainstream" religious "rulebook"?

Someone posted details on this forum not long ago. I'm afraid I cannot remember who or what the 'lying rule' is called, but I believe that if it is in the interests of muslims or the muslim faith it is quite acceptable!

I haven't heard of anything in the bible advising people to lie.

Proverbs 12:22New King James Version (NKJV)

22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,
But those who deal truthfully are His delight.

Muslim scholars teach that Muslims should generally be truthful to each other, unless the purpose of lying is to "smooth over differences."

There are two forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman. These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause Islam - in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.

This is an odd one. Do British police have the remit to prevent free people from travelling where they like these days?
