Hi all, I have a wireless modem router (Virgin Media Hub 3.0). I have used a LAN connection to bridge it to a non-modem wireless router and have disabled the DCHP server option.

This has successfully extended the range of my router. I have a network requirement out in the garage and I would like a wired connection for this -- can I utilise the spare LAN ports on the back of the access point router, or do I need to use a switch (with one cable going to the access point and one going to the garage)?

Tried variances of this question online and for some reason can't find a clear answer.

There isn't a clear answer because it depends on what you have unfortunately. Usually the little wireless routers have a WAN Internet Service Provider port and the rest are LAN local access ports, you should be able to use the local ports for other devices but some devices are more configurable allowing all kinds of combinations, what model is the wireless router?

I should have specified! The router I have is a TP-Link Archer C2 (bought it in 2013 brand new and only opened it this weekend).

I have connected it to the Virgin Hub via a LAN port, as I understood this is what’s needed if disabling DCHP server mode.

I hoped I could use the other ports for other direct connections, but with the TP-Link in an access point mode I wondered if the other devices would need manually-assigned IP addresses.

No it's fine, it's all one network at an Ethernet level, the same addresses would be allocated from DHCP to wireless and wired connected devices.
