Poor excuse though, you could re-do it safely (if untidily) using random stuff found round your typical office (1 4-way and 4 PC leads)
Quickie alternative items I used; 13A to C14, 2 way male to female splitter and 1 way male to female.

After taking the pics I adapted it and now looks like this:

Since then I've added choc bloc to the male lead too.

If these lights accept power in on the power out socket, does that mean that the pins on the power in socket are live?

The answer is almost certainly YES
I've just thought why you might do this, the fuse on the inlet to the light is before the passthrough connector

The "passthrough" connections in my experience have had in and out linked directly together by robust cable or PCB tracks. Such that the links would carry fault currents limited only by the fuse in the supply to the rack

As an aside to this I hurriedly ordered 2 cables on Thursday evening from on of my regular suppliers with a Saturday delivery; 2metre,13A plug, 2x C13 + C5 from with the intention of changing C5 to C13. It was the best option I could find for a quick delivery.
They phoned on Friday to say they couldn't supply from stock but they has some 3m C14 to 3x C13 not on their on-line catalogue and even better one of their staff passes my home town on the motorway and we arranged a hand over at the junction on Friday evening.
