Not a problem, I just don't understand why....
Fibre comes into a Arris router, which is located in the loft of my semi. Downstairs, on laptop using wifi, speed test shows I get the full fibre speed, plus a bit of 150/160Mbs.
The Arris, connects via wired LAN, to a second router, a Netgear WNDR3400v2, set up to work as a simple switch/wifi access point, and located on the ground floor.
From the back of the Netgear, there is a wired LAN cable, which goes back up to loft, terminated there, then a cable goes from that termination, to supply a desktop system in the small bedroom on first floor. A speedtest on that desktop system, shows a regular throughput of only 90Mbs.
Connecting my laptop, to the ground floor router, I get a similar 90Mbps. That suggests to me, that either the Netgear is causing the restriction on throughput, or the cable linking Arris to the Netgear.
The reason the cable feeding the desktop goes down, up to loft, then down to the desktop on the first floor, is that the Arris only had no spare ports, and the was a spare port at the Netgear. The cables were there in place, and also spare.
