Will you get seriously hammered this Christmas??

You know the feeling. You wake up on christmas day morning feeling like crap from the night before , kids that have been awake way before sparrow fart telling you what Santa has bought them when you realy don't give a rats ass , and on top of all this , the wife or girl friend busting a gut to tell you what you did last night!. You go to the bathroom and are horrified with all the felt tip artisrty on your face that some 'mate' did while you were out of it. And just when you feel that you can't be made to suffer enough , out come the photos!!. A fag shoved up your nose , or obscenities writen all over you , very often both and worse , and yet we put ourselves through this ritual every year despite the " never again!!" statements !. So , will you be 'going for it' this year!!!

Nope. Don't drink and when my kids were young it was their time - not adult time. We stayed sober to give them a good Christmas. It might sound boring - but they never complained.

Now you have totally ruined the lovely picture that you painted of your Devon village....
The answer from me is absolutely not and that goes for all of my family ....personally I can't think of anything worse ...but it takes all sorts

Each to their own. I feel no guilt in enjoying myself at Christmas. We know Xmas is mainly for kids but not exclusively. My kids enjoyed seeing their parents being different from the usual at this time of year , and it actualy added to their enjoyment to see mum and dad letting their hair down after working hard all year!.

Seriously hammered was what my mates parents did. Sick all Christmas day telling the kids to 'shut it' and forgetting about Christmas dinner. So which is it? Having a couple of drinks or 'getting hammered'?

Ruined the picture of my Devon village? Are you serious?. Are you a true local in the sense that you were born in Cornwall or are you just a emmet?. We in the West country have the hardest of existancies. We are paid a lot less than the average, ( £12 - 16000 being the norm ) , pay more in water charges than the rest of the UK , and endure months of upheaval to our lives during the summer. Christmas is one of the rare ocassions where we genuine locals can get togoether and let our hair down. If you are a genuine west country person , then you know exactly where I am coming from

I feel sorry for kids with selfish parents with the attitude the op has displayed. Why are they allowed kids?

This sounds like a scene from my life when I was 18-20, when it was moderately acceptable to behave in this manner. I had no kids, a routine job and no real responsibility to anyone other than myself.
You say you have a wife and kids and you STILL behave this way? And at Christmas? Jeez you have some lucky kids that will have their dad to play/help them build things Christmas day. Surely this isn't the ONLY day the kids see you let your hair down (if that's what getting hammered is yo you) other than the one day it really should be about the whole family as a unit.

Listening to some on here bears out what my old man used to say - 'never trust someone who doesn't drink'. ;)

OP. Have your fun at Xmas, as long as no one gets hurt, except the inside of your head. It will teach you to go easy until next Xmas.

Merry Xmas to one and all!
