Windscale disaster

There's probably little diff in dose there now from flying but its the contam.

Alpha needs to be very little to be llethal. Travels no distance but is highly dangerous if particles touch lips etc. remember the geezer that got given a tiny amount of alpha in his meal ( Russian spy supposed)

That is dodgy doing guides in there dressed like that. It must be highly contaminated with alpha.

You might think its ok but that place is screaming.

I didn't think it was a problem externally as such, Litvinenko was given a lethal dose of polonium, 200x the median lethal dose according to wikipedia.

Of all the great places on Earth to choose from for a holiday, why did you choose to go there?

It's not a problem externally but if it get knocked up air borne or touched then passed to clothing then clothing to hand to mouth.

Think about it. Your shoes even. Where you walk could be passing more than dug ****e to your carpet. We're talking particles!

Depends on the kind of holiday you like, lying on beach isn't for me. I love nosing around old buildings and stuff like that. That place is the ultimate in UrbEx....Fukushima next

P.s It's not dodgy at all. You get higher radiation from the sun when you fly. There are plenty of no go areas and some areas with high Radiation that you can only stay for a few minutes.

This badboy was used to dump sand into the reactor, it was off the scale on the dosemeter and we only stayed for a few minutes.

Shoes were left in the hotel in Kiev :)

Yeah, 200x the average lethal dose though. Give someone 200x the lethal dose of anything and it is gonna be fatal wether it be alpha, cyanide or rat poison!

Apparently the filters fitted to the stacks on the reactor were an afterthought by the engineer, probably saved a lot of lives

You are aware the dose meter can be set to just about any scale.

If you were in there did they give you a film badge or any idea of dosage!

Yeh they explained it and let us do all the dosemeter handling for fun. Neither of us were bothered about it really, the risks are small if you are not a tool and chewing your fingers all day.

You get a comedy check on the way out of the 30k zone, not done anywhere near properly in the usual soviet/ukrainian way. :)

Occasionally, I know someone who has had it. There has also been high profile cases in Cumbria such as Gemma D'Arcy.
