I have demolished a car-port and built a garage in its place with an electric roller shutter door. The car-port had two fluorescent lights and a double socket. I have taken all the electrics out and now need to reinstall them....HELP! Can anyone advise me or do a wiring diagram to wire the electric door, 2 lights, and 1 or maybe 2 sockets. I was also thinking of putting a PIR to control the lights when entering the garage, now my brain is in total meltdown! Please HELP...

if you cant understand how ring mains etc work then you shouldnt attempt this

Cheers for that Andy!

As your quite close (I'm in Sunderland) and you just beat us today, you could pop over and show me how a ring main works!

Andy is quite right, actually. All the things you mention are very simple to wire. However, getting a supply to them is a different matter and very likely falls into notifiable work under the Building Regulations. There are many, many relevant posts on this site - try searching, using terms such as 'garage electrics', 'power to garage', outside power', etc...

Cheers Dingbat, the power supply is already in the garage, it come from the main board and has its own fuse. I have used this to power the door. Will do another search, cheers for replies.

In that case, install a 'garage consumer unit' ( try a search) which incorporates an RCD main switch and use that as the origin for all your new circuits.

is your garage part of a house, or get its supply form a house? if yes youll have to notify the work to LABC or get someone else to do it. if its just a garage with its own supply, and no living area then its exempt from part P

Garage is in the rear yard and just gets its power from the house.
