We have a small terraced house (2 up 2 down) and the front door opens straight into the front room.

As a result the carpet gets very dirty.

A friend of mine has a load of real wood flooring left over from an old job which he will give to me free of charge.

I want to put this flooring down to create effectively a corridor through to the kitchen but keep carpet in the rest of the front room (see dodgy pics!).

Do any of you have any comments regarding this? I.e. is it a silly idea?

Also how would I deal with the threshold between carpet and wood flooring?

Any help would be appreciated.

sensible idea, get carpet edging bar with grips on one side in 3meter lenghts and fit that.Just becareful you cut the carpet straight

What type of underfloor do you have? Glue down the boards for your corridor. Think it's better to use a Solid Oak ramp threshold instead of a carpet edging bar. Base of ramp will press on the carpet

Thanks guys.

It's actually thin ply which is screwed onto floor boards. This ply brings it up to be exactly level with a small square of concrete which is at the bottom of the stairs.

Where can I get this solid oak ramp from?

Cheers,

Chris

This is called a 'zig zag' or 'z' section bar/threshold strip.

That would be my 2nd choice. My first choice would be to raise the carpet side to be dead level to the wood tho and fit flush to the flooring with no strip at all.
