Hello Gardener's

Can anyone recommend a good Wood chipper that's not too expensive.

Mainly to do branches

Is that for your tree that you want to trim? If so, it might be worth getting a tree surgeon round to prune it properly and remove all the branches if it’s just a one-off. Should be cheaper than buying a chipper and doing it yourself.

It is I've already started the Butchering... I have about 3 or 4 trips to.the dump that can only be done once a week. So I'm going to make a drive for the car on the side of the house with wood chippings.

Most tree surgeons are normally only too happy to give you their chippings. They regularly let a tree surgeon dump theirs off at our allotment for us to use as a mulch on paths and beds - I did all mine the other day. I don’t think chippings would be suitable for a drive though - the chippings on paths and beds breaks/flattens down and has to be topped up each year. When it’s dry and windy it will also get blown everywhere.

I've got an ever growing garden... it may not be perfect but with a bit of maintenance and topping up each year I think it will help getting my vehicles parked every night..

What size branches will you realistically be regularly chipping? That's the key to determining the size of wood chipper you need, there's not much point getting a chipper that can chop up 50mm branches if you'll only chop a few up every other year or something. I picked up a Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 for £50 off Marktplace, realisitcally they're such simple machines so not much to go wrong and the blades can easilty be sharpened/reversed/replaced it seemed potty to buy a brand new one. But it maxes out at about 30mm, anything bigger I just cut it into manageable lengths but 99% its less than that but then we also have a garden waste collection service down here.

I'd say 50mm would be maximum. I've got Laura trees that take a trim every year and they do grow quick. I'll look on ebay

I’ve got a Bosch quiet shredder, it has a slow turning turbine action - much much quieter than the liquidiser blade types.

these quiet ones are so much nicer to use, mine will cut upto 40mm

hyundai do one for about £230, the Bosch is dearer.

Well I’ve got an earlier version, but it’s basically the same.

it’s really quiet, it has like a turbine shaped gear wheel that chops up the stuff.

Smashing. Quiet don't bother me I like to let the neighbours know I'm at it again
