I think it's some kind of fuse/cutout but not sure, here's a photo of the box and the cover that I just found near the base of the pole.

I'm trying to phone National Grid to report it but of course the wait time is interminable due to all of the storm problems so will keep trying, in the meantime thought I'd ask here. (Edit: now got through and logged the issue).

How crucial is it that this cover is replaced as a matter of any urgency?

Obviously it's high up so no danger to people but not sure if the terminals being exposed could cause any issues.

Contact the company that sends your electricity bill. A letter is less likely to be ignored or fobbed off

They do not own the network but they have a responsibility to pass the problem on to the correct company. It will not be National Grid.

As a customer, you are under no obligation to understand the vagaries of the Electricity industry.

If I knew your approximate postcode I could look it up. It might be mentioned on your bill. Try dialling 105 from your home phone.

Ring 105 to speak to your local electricity supplier, not the National Grid..

Thanks, just managed to get through to National Grid, the issue has been logged and somebody will be out today or tomorrow.

I hope that they don't want to turn off my power just to put the cover back on .......... :)
