wooden gateposts and concrete?

Hi, Im fitting some wooden driveway gates, each leaf is 5ft wide by 6ft high. the gate posts i am using are 9ft by 8x8in and will be sunk 3ft deep.my question is would well compacted granite type 1 be as strong as concrete for the posts as they will eventually rot if set in concrete. i have used this method in the past for fencing but im not sure if its strong enough for heavy gates? any suggestions would be greatly appreiciated

if your posts are tanalized they will not rot with concrete ,which is a better job.
