Just expect (and plan) for Murphy's law and you'll be fine.

Had a customer (landlord) today...32 visits to fix their boiler...is this a record for BG :) ...in the end they threw in the towell and called the manufacturer who fixed it on the first visit.

In fact I could see the the cause of the original problem on my first visit today...took all of 30 seconds to see. How can BG mangement allow any customer to have more than 2 visits without investigating?

The customers other boiler had 15 visits (over the course of 18 months) before they replaced the plate heat exchanger.

What numpties run BG in SE London? The rest of the country must be subsidising them.

The clue is the pushfit elbow/pipe botched into the solvent tee and the boiler being condensing ie flue slopes towards the boiler. In the end most of the boiler parts had been replaced  Pipework is now repaired.

i have.

the questions are easy.

i didnt take the job.

Why didn't you take the job?

they wanted me to work more saturdays, which is astounding considering the amount i do now....no sundays though which almost tipped it.

they also seemed to a little vague on my expected hours and travel and i couldnt see the money being a lot better so i passed.

london is notoriously bad. they are supposed to involve management after 3 visits. iirc if it goes to 7 visits the managing director of the whole shebang gets a notification.

Which makes you wonder wether 32 visits is an urban myth. Find that really hard to believe because of set down procedure for a job with multiple visits

Bloody hell, 32 visits!? Thats got to be record!

Gasguru what was the boiler and what was the fault and how could you still see it if manufacturer had fixed it

Saturdays don't bother me, been told 1 in 4 during summer time and 1 in 2 during winter, totalling 19 over the year. And I have covered most of the county of Cornwall self employed doing over a 1000 miles a week, so travel is not a problem.

Just be glad to be employed again :)

Could be wrong but im sure that picture was used several months ago as well

You may be right nickso I may have posted that picture before. At the time I was doing the LGSRs for the flats above and noticed the iffy pipework..the boiler was newly installed (not by BG or me) so the LGSR was not yet due. At that time I told the LL of the potential problem and BG would not necesarily cover any likely fault resulting from it. In fact the condense pipework was also uninsulated (22mm) and going uphill outside. Clearly BG aren't checking pre-existing installation faults when they take on a boiler. Terminal guard is only zinc plated and not plastic coated or SS.

The boiler was a Band B Alpha combi.

Looking at the scale buildup around the edge of the air intake inside the combustion chamber I suspect water was getting onto the fan terminals.

The PP pipe has just been pushed into the solvent tee (not even siliconed), a dripping tap from the bathroom in the flat above resulted in even more chance of water ingress to the flue.

I have no reason to query the number of visits..both the landlord and tenants are trustworthy and I have known them for years...I just carry out the LGSR.

In fact this property had major problems with a Powermax several years ago. I was called by the LL to give an opinion on the installation...(this was my first encounter with the landlord).

The boiler was on contract with BG. They had issued several LGSR in previous years. Then one year either BG (or a BG subby) AR'd the installation. The flue terminated under the kitchen floor (timber) of the flat above. BG backtracked (and covered up the AR) and I was called in as an independent unaware of the situation. I actaully went further and ID'd the lot. I also found a 20KW DFE (in a real state) in the living room with no ventilation and being used as a bedroom  . When I disonnected the fire I found it connected to the gas supply of the flat above.

I could write a book on BG down here :D

The latest Alphas (and some Baxi/Pottertons) have a "collector" tray to drain water ingress via the air duct...should be compulsory on ALL condensing boilers.

fair enough mate. not knocking them, probably the only manufacturer i would work for tbh. just wasnt the right deal for me considering i had a pretty easy life at the time. ill rarely get more than 1 in 6 at any time of the year but it is creeping towards 1 in 5 now.
