Wouldn't it just keep the peace if he DID put a ramp down?

the man in the wheel chair certainly had an agenda in trying to demonise the staff he might as well shouted ouch ouch stop hitting me

he probably has, but that does not negate the facts that these trains are not suitable for cattle let alone human beings.!

these trains where built on 4 wheeled chassies and use bus componants so thus are narrower than normal precluding wheel chair from the seated area

they where an attempt to reduce running costs on light used lines but where never popular so only 3 types where built with subsiquent build being normal rail sized bodies

just remember how un freindly the busses and buildings where to the disabled 25 years ago when theses where built

its about time that the train operators were made to provide trains suitable for all to use. our local buses and trains have managed it so therefore Northern can do so too.
yep, I travel on trains occasionally, so I'm certainly willing to see my ticket price go up to contribute to updating or replacing thousands of older trains. I'm sure you are too. But are all the other passengers?

Or would it be better to increase income tax and VAT to pay for it and let the government pay a subsidy?

Can't help wondering how do they get off the train, shout "I need help" :?:  Maybe this is why you have to book it in advance :?:

No doubt they will tax the motorist to pay for it.

The guy clearly had an agenda to prove, as he said on the news a previous article prompted him to post that footage, was told to use a later service that could accomodate him, refused that, and was obtuse with the staff. The staff have a duty of care for all passengers, not one singular person, so if a wheelchair is blocking the exit, and there is an emergency..what then?

Kevindgas, you have easy access onto the boat for disabled access, but how do you evacuate in an emergency?

I'm also suspect of your comment 'ALL our local busses have a drop axle', where I live they don't, and I've seen people with prams unable to align, and had to wait for the next service. That's main route services, not some minibus on some backwater route. Can you clarify that statement?

in an emergency we would take what ever action was required, the lift is electric but also has a manual hydraulic pump in addition to the electric motor the ramp is designed to be rolled out for use.
(it meets all the safety criteria as required by the MCA inspector for a passenger vessel)

as for the bus comment mickey all the local buses are identical and all have drop axle fitted so nothing suspect about it. Blue Star may have non drop buses but they are not used on our local routes (single deck buses only) due to low bridges round here double deckers are not used (they'd be open top buses after one journey if they were.

Align with what? Or did you mean alight?

he must mean align as in, aligning the pram with the doorway, proberbly have to get it pretty perfect.
Alight means to leave, so, she wouldn't need to alight if she had not been able to align

Wheelchair / pram friendly busses in my area have suspension that lowers to enable access? They also have raised kerbs, so that the level of the bus, and the level of the kerb are equal. For this to work, both bus and kerb must be aligned. To allow a person to alight the vehicle. Mr pedantic. My brother uses a wheelchair, so I come across this problem a lot.

You write out of context, so what is your point?

I don't understand when people pick and choose to edit posts, edit a post to fit your argument? Makes you look more of an idiot IMHO..

What you write makes no sense to me.
