Your first pay packet

when i were a kid, i started work before i went to school, got up before i went to bed, worked 25 hours a day, and paid my boss £40 rent, before getting my £35 salary... which was taxed at 300%.....

Left school at 16 with no idea what i wanted to do. Parents gave me a choice, find a job or find a new place to live! My first wage was 85 quid a week back in '98 working as a general dogsbody at a local garden centre.
 
My first wage pre decimalisation 1960 was, three pounds fourteen shillings and ninepence.
Laboured in a factory.

£2. 10. 6. a week as an apprentice plumber used to take 2/- a day for my chippy dinner 1/6 for two meat pies and 6 pennorth o chips = 2 bob.
 
My first proper job was an apprentice gas fitter back in 1968. Take home pay was £5 1s. Then the tax man took off the shilling for emergency tax :evil:
 
Started as a builders' labourer on a government scheme earning £25 rips a week.

Gave my Ma a blue note for board every Friday.

One fifth. It was worth it though just for the phone bill alone!
