Your Money's No Good Here

Is this not linked to potential terrorism going back to the days of Cameron

Only seeing 1 side of the story in here so far
It goes back as far as 9/11 in the States and 7/7 in the UK: two game changing acts of terrorism that enabled both governments to fast forward legislation restricting different aspects of daily life for all citizens, not just those suspected of terrorism.
Protestors against Xi making a state visit in 2015(?) were monitered by both governments in the lead up to his arrival and sidelined during his runabout through London. I've no doubt the Saudi prince will receive the same courtesies when he arrives.
The Muslims targeted for suspected terrorism were exonerated yet still find themselves under scrutiny, even down to small business owners who've been restricted by banks without explanation.
Don't you think it's gone too far?

Kind of connected to this. Saw a news article on tv this morning re the government bringing in legislation to ensure banks offer ATMs within 3 miles of where people live (wherever possible) to ensure the elderly, those in rural areas and anyone who doesn't bank online can still have access to cash. A guy was on the news piece representing some sort of financial watchdog (or something like that) stating how important the legislation is given cash is 'here to stay' to ensure no one is excluded.

Despite his confidence, I won't be surprised if we're in a completely cashless society within the next 20 years or so.
Our village shop did something like that as the nearest bank is a bloody long walk from here...but you had to pay £1.50 to use the machine. What exactly am i paying for? Using their service at their convenience for closing down local banks?

I don't know, I'm not in a knowledgeable enough position to say.

Every case is individual, and every case I've seen, there is another side of the argument, which is conveniently ignored or hidden.

Nobody should be unable to get a bank account. Should it be at their bank of choice, regardless ?

Has the bank closed accounts with no notice, ever ? Any proof?

If it is linked to terrorism, should we as taxpayers be expected to support them having such an account?

Do you think there is only 1 side to the story ?

This from the Telegraph, gives a bit more info about the legislation:

Banks will be forced to provide customers with free access to cash within three miles of their home under new laws to preserve paper money. Those that fail to comply will face limitless fines under plans to protect deposit and withdrawal services unveiled by Downing Street. Ministers said the rules will ensure that millions of people who rely on cash every day won’t have to “trek for hours” for basic banking services. Banks will have to provide cash services within three miles of customers who live in rural areas, and just one mile for those in towns and cities. They will not be allowed to close branches until they have put in place alternative provisions to ensure people can still access paper money.

I guess that means mobile banks for remote villages? or those dratted cash machines. All this cashless nonsense really doesn't take into account those areas where a mobile signal is difficult/impossible to find and banks/post offices have left anyone without a car stuck in the digital dark ages.
It's bad enough in the High Peaks. It must be a bloody nightmare in the Highlands.

I cycled the NC500 two years ago and everywhere took card with no issue at all. Most of the petrol stations can't even take cash as they have no staff, you pay at the pump.

There is tech that can settle transactions offline .... just depends on if the banks adopt it .

Banks are adapting their systems to take in more and more digital transactions: no need even to post a cheque these days - there's an app for that. It leaves them with a huge amount of power to exert across society. There's an episode on Black Mirror which explores the risks of losing your credit rating, your job, applying for benefits, housing, everything you associate with modern life.
Everyone was affected by the 2008 crash and while it's reassuring they're taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again, can they be absolutely certain it won't? I don't.

Was a good episode that . One of my favourites from the series .

It certainly can happen . I'm not saying digital is fault free . I'm just saying the amount of banks and companies getting involved in cbdcs is alot more than what many people may think. Structures are already In place . The USA are obviously dead against it for now ( cant print endless amounts of them ) court cases at the moment surrounding some crypto companies . Once there is regulatory clarity there will be no stopping it .
I am not rooting to go completely cashless at all . I like cash and I Hope it stays ( use for my homers) . Amazon have teamed up with a company as PayPal have their stable coin as of recent . I can't imagine companies bothering if its a lost cause ...

This wasn't an issue while it was Muslims and others who were targeted.
It reminds of that German pastor who got thrown into a concentration camp.
Can't remember his name and can't be arsed to look it up.
Martin Niemöller
You'll be thinking of his poem First They Came ...
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Something a lot of people really ought to consider. There seems to be too much "don't care, doesn't affect me" attitude in modern society.

I 'd like to see genuine case s where accounts have been refused without notice, that can't get an account anyw here.

all the ones I've seen have had another side to the story

Do the research: the Truth is out there.
Over 10,000 people on Facebook can't be wrong, can they?

The numbers of people being ditched by their bank look set to rise even further because UK banks and building societies have started carrying out immigration checks on 70m personal current accounts as part of measures agreed by parliament to encourage those living and working in the UK illegally to leave. Action taken could include closing accounts. (Feb. 2018)

Are any of those unable to open a basic account anywhere?

Have any of those had accounts closed with no notice ?
