Hi
Our garden has a brick wall as part of a raised decking framework. We've recently discovered water pooling on the concrete floor in front of it, which seems to be slowly flowing from where the wall meets the concrete.
There are a few (what seem to be) drainage tubes above the first brick...
I am building a garden pond and going to lay the concrete footings this week. However, I have noticed that the UK is going to be cold next week.
Will it be ok to lay the concrete or wait until it warms up?
Thanks
Hi guys,
I’m building a single skin, 4 courses solid engineering brick retaining wall to retain a small garden lawn. I’ve left weep holes every 2nd brick at ground level and will backfill with 10mm pea gravel, but wanted thoughts on whether a polythene membrane should be put along the side of...
I am trying to drill a hole to insert a fibre extension cable from the outside to the inside of a brick wall. This wall is part of an extension built between 1989 and 1995. I have a Bosch Hammer drill, that never had any trouble going through brick.
But now it's really stuck - it goes in about...
Hello! So decided to redecorate a bedroom ourselves. Removed wallpaper, scrubbed, sanded, cleaned, primed, skimmed and one coat of primer/undercoat. My issue is I have a few areas where I can see 'steps' from where I've skimmed, my fault for not sanding well enough in these areas.
Can I use...
Hello. Our Victorian terrace house is built with the garden wall continuing as the party wall for the property. Water is sucked into the interior of the house as it was built without any vertical break or damp proof course, it’s just one long wall. I removed the concrete render from the interior...
We're looking to open up a cupboard space in the kitchen.
Made up for 4 brick walls, which used to house the original heating system. Concrete pad sitting on top of the brickwork below ceiling level. (Just above the vent for reference)
Chimney sits on the concrete and continues through rest...
Why did people ever put thick textured goo on their walls?
It's there any way to get the stuff off. I've got solid stone walls with lime plaster, in one area there's been some damp and it's pealed off in sheets but the rest is rock solid.
It has been tested for asbestos.
Does aquapanel go above the bath with the bath rim slid underneath it, or does it extend below the rim with the bath pushed up to it (plus sealant)?
Asking because existing bath rim is 45mm wide but new bath side rim is 90mm wide, which seems a lot.
Thank you.
I have a stud going in at each end of a bath and was wondering what thickness Aquapanel on the stud would best? To tile over.
What does primer (BAL etc) actually do? Does it go on both sides?
And what glue would I use to fix the Aquepanel to the stud (plus screws), would Gorilla be ok?
Thank you.
I haven't used this panelling before, haven't done much tiing either. Shower panels look like the way forward if I can get some for above the bath.
Does anyone supply custom panels? (probably not laminate). Thick enough to be rigid. For walls above long side and each end. Approx.160cm tall...
Hi All.
I know what you are going to say, go and get the opinion of a professional struct eng.
But this is a DIY forum so let's forget about the professionals for a moment.
Trying to determine is the wall shaded yellow is structural?
Some background.
Bungalow, no second floor, so the...
Hi. I need some advice on a concrete slab that I’ve recently found under the floor boards in my daughters bedroom on the first floor. It’s in the corner of the room adjacent to the two exterior walls (and coldest walls).
I’ve always had issues with damp patches on these walls and very much in...
We have a disused space in our kitchen where the original oil boiler used to be situated.
Its essentially a cupboard space made up of 4 brickwork walls, 2 of those a shared with the 2 internal load bearing walls of the property.
Above is a concrete pad, below ceiling level with the remaining...
Hey, we've been in our house a couple of years now, its not a new build, think it was built in 70,so maybe... anyways in the front room we've noticed where the window meets the wall in the bottom corner its cracked quite a bit and lets through a draught. There's also a hairline crack that runs...
Hi,
I bought Reolink security cameras which I would like to fix outside my house. I everything will be straight forward, I will get the cable through the wall, and it's done. However, when my cameras arrived, I noticed that end of the cable is 20mm thick where ethernet cable connects.
If I...
I have a Column radiator to fit to a porcelain tiled bathroom wall. The wall is breeze block covered (by solid bed of tile adhesive) with 12mm marmox board.
The column radiator has four brackets with two fixing holes on each and come with screws and wall plugs.
My questions are around the...
Parents had a gutter that was leaking for some time. That's now sorted, but it has left behind some unsightly white staining on the brickwork below. A scrubbing brush and soapy water has failed to shift it. Any ideas what it is exactly, and how best to clean it up? Photo attached.
First of all thanks everyone for helping with my self build, so much appreciated.
Next stage complete the parapet wall design, roof timbers on for warm roof.My plan is to complete the top of the parapet wall either side, them fix the roof down.
Need to keep the parapet wall to minimum height...
