£200M of tax payers money for private home upgrades?

This is about private home owners getting their cladding replaced at the tax payers expense. ~£5-10 each. It's not about the EU or Brexit either. Tony makes a very good point about protecting people's lives from the risk of fire. However, I don't recall similar options being made available for asbestos or polystyrene ceiling tiles.

Thanks for the definition of being a prat
Aww bless...

So which 'bodd' thought* that up?

*The ability of any wearer of the bodd head to think is of course a matter of debate

Surely it would be better & possibly cheaper to demolish & build highly efficient safe homes.

Where? Many of these high-rise buildings are high-rise because land values are so high.

Even if you build a new high-rise you still have hundreds of residents to be decanted for years while the work is being done.

Compulsory purchase land banked by greedy property developers, then build blocks of flats. It doesn't take that long to build, they get thrown up pretty quickly now, time is money after all.

Does anyone actually want to live in a flat?
As opposed to having to?

I don't ont see how the builders and the producers of this cladding have got away Scott free.
Because the government took away the Fire Service responsibility for building safety - then probably outsourced it to China via the caymen islands. No input from those who know ( not sure when this happened ) Anyway , all the £ from the council house sales can be used:idea:
