4 Tyres please. HOW MUCH???

A driver can need to do an emergency stop or take evasive action even on the shortest of journeys.

Personally I wasn't suggesting that everyone needs to buy the most expensive tyres. Just that premium/branded tyres will perform better than budget ones and they justify a higher price.

Agree that on any tyre, the minimum tread depth must be there for it to be effective.
Exactly that

Probably some of the difference is in the wording. I refer to tyres as very good, good, budget and cheap. Cheap should be avoided.

Budget to you means cheap. Just interpretation. We agree on the point of quality

I completely get people putting on cheaper tyres if they're struggling financially, however my ethos is always put on the best tyres you can afford. I think some begrudge the money, almost as if they don't realise tyres are a critical part of what keeps the vehicle on the road and could save their (and others) life e.g. if needing to brake hard or take evasive action.

Regardless of grip etc cheap tyres tend to wear quicker so in long run might not be as cheap

This is one of the reasons that expensive cars drop in value so much. The running cost makes them uneconomical unlike cheaper models.

The Old Man had to give up driving, so I had to SORN his 18 year old S Type Jag for him. Didn't realise he was paying £738 p.a. for road tax on it. Being 91 years old his insurance was quite steep too.

If anyone wants one with only 71,000 miles let me know. Unfortunately, being an old duffer, the bodywork looks like it's done 10 times that. It will be cheap. (y) He'll just leave it to rot on his drive otherwise.

Get creative with the story, and Tim and Fuzz will sort it for sod all

A few years back, on a holiday in Ischgl, we had digs on the top of hill. It was a brisk walk into town but steep. I used to get a taxi back up the hill at night. I'd have to wait a while (let others pass me in the queue) until a taxi with new tyres was available, to get me up the hill.
