696 migrants, 14 boats

What did they do that was illegal? Littering?
There would be reasonable grounds to suspect:
1 - the vessel was unregistered - its a requirement in France
2 - the people attempting to launch it had no right to be in France - also an offence
3 - one or more of them may be part of an illegal people trafficking ring - also illegal

Otherwise we are left with the unlawful distraction of property at the hands of the French police. I'm pretty sure they don't have the right to smash up people's property.

the total number of migrants who have crossed the channel from France since January has now passed 18000

On Saturday 337 made the crossing

No wonder my neighbour says the french shop has a shortage of boats

The busiest week was the week to the 19th April when 2076 came across from France

Were any arrested? Do we know?
Do the French catch and stop any ? Do we know any numbers ?
Do they manage to cover all of the coastline or just known areas?
Do they have sufficient resources?

Just list ANY? And a link to the post.

You have avoided answering the pertinent bit:
When it finds an unregistered inflatable passenger ship (shall we call it) heading for the UK it escorts it to the half way mark and calls the UK SARS vessels to intercept.

Rescuing people in distress in the French territorial waters is the responsibility of the French, I agree.
Similarly it is the responsibility of the British to rescue those in distress in UK waters.
The problem arises by determining who or what is in distress. How do forcibly board a boat that is not, in its own opinion, in distress?

But I don't think the French are in a blame-game over the asylum seekers. I suspect they're prepared to oblige the UK, as much as the UK is prepared to pay for. When it becomes obvious to the UK that accepting we need to contribute to the global refugee problem, and that is better value for money than paying the French, we might regain some national credibility.

Perhaps we should be prepared to contribute to the global refugee 'problem' according to our ability. But we both know that won't happen.
