There are circa 270 public roads that cross the border

Between 270 and 300 roads cross the border,[3][30] with some roads crossing the border more than once.

During the troubles there were about 275 border crossing points, considerably more than your "just a few", manned by 21,000 soldiers.

The border is linked with 268 (often approximated as "up to 275") border crossing points.

The remaining minor road crossings were barricaded by the British Army, as you explained.
Since the GFA/BA those crossing points have since been reopened and now number about 300.

I've had it since the beginning, there are approximately 275 border crossings, many of these are single track roads and dirt tracks. The main roads had manned roadblocks and most of the rest, not all had concrete blocks thrown on them.

During the troubles there were about 275 border crossing points, considerably more than your "just a few", manned by 21,000 soldiers.

At the very peak of the troubles there were 21000 soldiers, most of time the figure was nearer 10000

Not all at the same time, obviously not, and not just "border crossings". But I suspect that a vast majority of them will have taken a turn at the "very few" (sic) checkpoints.
Either physically manning them, or being stationed in close proximity to, or on constant call for, or aligned with, or whatever military terminology you'd like to use.
Remember there were military checkpoints not just at border crossings. Or did that slip your memory?
