however, those aged 20-24 are more likely to attend than any other age
bracket. As Chart 5 shows, however, the sharp rise in attendance rates
among those older than 65 does not reflect a higher number of
attendances among members of this age. Rather, it reflects that there
are fewer people in older age groups, so the number of attendances
relative to the number of people is higher in those age categories. In
practice this means that on average, one-fifth of A&E attendees are
aged 65 or above and one-quarter are aged 19 or younger.
