Depends whether it's a big ern or a little ern.

they take the brass off and re-use it ;)

AFAIK, the wood ash and human ash aint seperated. But there are a lot of "big bits" left over that wont burn, only the fine ash is put in the urn, for aesthetic purposes. People dont want to scatter bits of pelvis for the next dog to come and grab it.

they aint

so kev what you are saying it is a mixture of both and looking at the size of an ern i cant see it possible to fit even a human ashes in a ern let alone the coffin ashes as well..

I heard the "brass" is plated plastic, the box is glued toether, no screws or nails that won't burn; and when they rake out the embers, they put them in a blender with some steel balls and rattle them about to break up the big bones.

Gold bits are sieved out and donated to charities.

Pacemakers are removed from the carcass before cooking as the batteries can explode.

those of us who have stainless steel bits, I presume they rake them out of the ash or use a magnet, and sell to Steptoe and son  whem they have a skipful.

watched the funeral directors on a life of grime, when they roll the coffin in, and sweep it out after, and it shows them taking the brass and nails out. Didn't show any big bones left or anything, they couldn't show that on tv. Suppose pacemakers are taken out during post mortem.

When I was in my training we went to a crematorium.

Not sure if things have changed since then but the handles were taken off the coffin, pacemakers had to be removed. The long bones of the body (thigh bone) and pelvis often don't burn completely to ash therfore they have to be 'ground down' to powder form - all of what is left is brushed into the urns which are given to the family.

They also have a viewing window as there is a religious group (can't remember which) can watch their family member being cremated

......well, I suppose if you're paying for the coffin ...... :)

Bob - what would you want to happen after you die? - buried or cremated?
